On
June 13th, our speaker
will be Eli Mina, who
will speak on Building Better Decision
Making Teams.
Many
executives and managers make attempts at shared decision making
without fully understanding its inherent risks and pitfalls.
Without a clear definition of the goals and parameters of
shared decision making, teams can become dysfunctional or
even worse off than with autocratic decision making. On the
other hand, if applied well, shared decision making can produce
smart, balanced and sustainable decisions, supported by an
increased sense of individual and collective ownership
Vancouver
consultant Eli Mina will shared insights and ideas from his
21 years of experience of working with a variety of decision
making teams, ranging from office or project teams to executive
committees, municipal councils, school boards and regulatory
bodies.
Specific
topics include:
- Principles
and goals of shared decision making
- Damage
inflicted by micro and macro dysfunctions
- Decision
making models: consensus, majority-based
- Measuring
the effectiveness of a decision making team
- Evaluating
team members
- Placing
collective interests ahead of narrow interests
